Our vision at Zindagi Trust is to give all children the opportunity to explore a variety of disciplines, discover and hone their skills, and develop not only into ace test-takers but also more complete individuals. For this reason, we believe that the arts are an essential element in the education of every child, and specially, of every student of a Pakistani government school. They help develop our students into well-rounded citizens, strengthen their critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills needed to excel in the classroom and in life.
In classrooms across the world, evidence is mounting that high-quality arts education programs can also have a positive effect on student learning, motivation, interest and attendance. With high student absenteeism, under-performance in academic achievement and an almost complete lack of exposure to extra-curricular and co-curricular programs at our target school, Khatoon-e-Pakistan Government Girls School in Karachi, a powerful arts program will also motivate our students to be more regular, take interest in their other subjects and apply what they learn in the classroom to the outside world.
We envision an art program where the art teachers are key players, the community is actively involved, and the resources of the city’s cultural community are maximized. We want the program to develop into a model for arts education with the school acting as an ambassador for public arts education across Karachi and Sindh, outreach activities and exchanges with other government schools, starting with SMB Fatima Jinnah Government Girls School.
The program aims to introduce students to a variety of basic and advanced techniques, different mediums, international and Pakistani art history through weekly art, crafts and pottery classes. It will also involve them in outreach through community interaction and other events such as inter-school art competitions or joint public art ventures across the city.
We kick off this Friday, 24th February, with a grand Student Art Exhibition displaying the work of our budding young artists. Make a donation or drop by our student art show to support our work!
