KHAN ACADEMY Trust is a charity providing education to children in marginalized areas of SindhProvince, Pakistan through a network of schools. Green Crescent Trust’s schools operation, like many other ngos, charity and nonprofit organizations, is run through donation from generous individual and corporate donors who have joined this cause to fight illiteracy in Pakistan.
Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 9 Surah Taubah verse 60: “Alms are for the poor and the needy, and those employed to administer the (funds); for those whose hearts have been (recently) reconciled (to Truth); for those in bondage and in debt; in the cause of Allah; and for the wayfarer: (Thus is it) ordained by Allah, and Allah is full of knowledge and wisdom.” (Surah Al-Tawbah 9:60)
There are eight categories of people and services for whom and which it is permissible to pay Zakat:
1. The poor
2. The needy
3. Those who collect Zakah
4. Those whose hearts are to be reconciled
5. To free a captive
6. Those in debt
7. In the way of Allah
8. For the wayfarers
A valuable way to pay Zakat is to help the cause of Education as Zakat Feesabeelillah (in the way of Allah) or Lil-Fuqara (for the poor). Such use of Zakat donation is approved by the major schools of Islamic thought.
